How does Invisalign work?

The mechanics of Invisalign are nearly identical to traditional metal braces: a tiny-yet-constant amount of pressure is exerted on your teeth, which slowly and progressively moves them into a better alignment. But while traditional braces do this with unattractive wires, brackets, and bands, Invisalign accomplishes the task with a series of removable, clear aligners made from flexible, polyurethane plastic.

How do I get started with Invisalign?

First, Dr. Nguyen uses 3D imaging to make a virtual model of your smile. She then manipulates that model to track the journey your teeth need to take to reach your target alignment, then fabricates a series of clear plastic aligners that mark a number of “steps” on that journey.

You wear your aligners all day, every day, but you can take them out when you’re eating or when you need to brush or floss your teeth. As your teeth get closer to their target alignment, you progress through your series of aligners, switching to a new set every two weeks. In some cases, it only takes a matter of months to reach your target alignment!
